About

Over 27,000 affiliated companies with more than 150,000 insured persons have entrusted their occupational benefits to the Vita Joint Foundation. The Vita Joint Foundation is one of the most important semi-autonomous collective foundations in Switzerland. It is responsibly committed to a balanced, sustainable and secure occupational benefit scheme – for current and future generations.

Initial situation

Pension gaps, poverty in old age, BVG reform and a shortage of skilled workers – topics that are omnipresent in the media. Megatrends such as New Work and working from home pose major challenges for employers. More and more people want modern working models, work part-time, have several jobs or take longer breaks from work – but this also has an impact on future pensions and can lead to large gaps in occupational benefits.

For many employers, occupational pension provision is still a tedious legal requirement that often receives too little attention. However, especially in an environment where there is a shortage of skilled workers, companies can not only set themselves apart from the competition with modern pension solutions, but also position themselves as responsible employers. In this way, they make an important contribution to ensuring that their employees have adequate pension provision. But what does a modern pension solution look like? The field of occupational pensions is complex, so there is a great desire for a simple assessment of the situation.

This is where we come in and support employers: The “Flexwork” pension check is a further development of the “Transparente” pension calculator. In just a few minutes, employers can check for themselves how up-to-date their pension solution is.

Solution

If you make good provisions today, you can live your dreams in old age: But who knows how much money will be available to you in old age? This is where “Transparente”, an intuitive pension calculator from the Vita Joint Foundation, comes in. It enables users to calculate their future pension in just a few minutes and in a fun way, across all three pension pillars. The aim is to make the general public aware of potential pension gaps and show them what they can do. Those who make provisions early on can continue their accustomed lifestyle in old age.

This approach, which is aimed at the individual, is being further developed by “Flexwork”. The Flexwork pension check is aimed at companies, as awareness must also be extended to employers, the decision-makers. After all, pension provision is a matter for the boss. Attractive and socially responsible employers should also move with the times when it comes to pension solutions. The modern working world with all its flexible working models requires new solutions.

With this tool, companies can quickly and efficiently check whether their pension solutions are up to date and immediately receive specific recommendations for action. This is particularly relevant, as companies can not only increase the motivation and loyalty of their employees through an up-to-date pension solution, but can also position themselves as attractive employers and strengthen their competitiveness.

Both solutions complement each other perfectly by enabling both individual users and companies to proactively shape and secure their financial future and that of their employees.

“A carefree financial future for all insured persons - it starts with knowing your own situation, which is exactly where we come in with transparente.ch in a playful way. The idea of developing something similar for employers arose following an InnoSuisse project that we were able to carry out with Avenir Group and the University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland. ”

Public Value

Last year, the Federal Statistical Office published indicators on poverty in old age. These show that the level of suffering increases above all at an older retirement age, i.e. among the over 75s. According to the Credit Suisse Barometer 2023, retirement provision is one of the population’s top three concerns.

The Vita Joint Foundation is responsibly committed to balanced, sustainable and secure occupational pension provision – for current and future generations. With the “Flexwork” pension check and the “Transparente” pension calculator, the foundation aims to raise awareness, create transparency and show scope for action. This is to be achieved in several ways.

The image showcases snippets of articles from NZZ, highlighting pension issues for part-time workers and potential gaps in old-age provision amid concerns about a labor shortage in Switzerland. The texts, written in German, also explore the rise of flexwork as a modern employment trend.

Right from the start, the focus was on creating a solution that has no language barriers and involves the entire population. That is why the web apps are available in four languages: German, French, Italian and English. The web apps provide users with an individual assessment of their situation with concrete options for action. They have the option of simply downloading this analysis as a PDF. If you would like individual advice, you can contact experts from the Vita Joint Foundation and Zurich Insurance directly by phone or e-mail. Using the web apps does not require registration or an e-mail address. This keeps the inhibition threshold for use low and optimally guarantees the privacy of users.

“The future of old-age provision is a major concern for the Swiss population: Whether AHV or occupational pension provision - the Swiss are concerned about the development of the two most important pillars. With the WebApp, we show in a playful way what a needs-based pension plan could look like. We provide recommendations for an optimal pension solution not only in old age, but also in the event of risk. ”

Creativity

With our simple and uncomplicated approach to the world of occupational pensions, we wanted to break through the status quo of complex and dry content. By introducing gamification elements, our aim was to make the topic of pensions not only purely informative, but also attractive and accessible.

The user journey is designed to be intuitive throughout and is always accompanied by an interactive speedometer that serves as a reference point and shows the current status of the pension solution. Through the use of animations, users receive immediate feedback on their entries. This immediate feedback not only makes the learning process more effective, but also more attractive. It creates a dialog between users and the tool, which increases engagement and deepens understanding thanks to the different recommendations for action.

Our approach breaks new ground in communicating the core concept of pension provision. Instead of relying on traditional methods, we use modern technologies and creative approaches. For example, the problem was broken down into small, simple steps, which contributes significantly to better understanding.

“Challenge accepted: 'Peeling out' the core of occupational pension provision in an attractive and understandable way. Interactive, graphic and to the point, we sensitize employers and employees to the importance of consciously shaping their financial future. ”
